Description
The Plymouth Road Runner was born from a simple but brilliant idea: take the B-body platform, strip away the excess, and pack in as much performance as the budget would allow. Introduced in 1968, it became an instant hit with buyers who wanted serious muscle without the premium price tag of a GTX or GTO. By 1969, the Road Runner had evolved into one of the most recognizable and beloved nameplates of the entire muscle car era, with its cartoon bird graphics, signature horn, and no-nonsense attitude making it a genuine cultural icon. When ordered with the optional 426 Hemi and 4-speed, it became something far more serious — a factory-built drag car that could embarrass almost anything on the street.
This example is one of just 234 Hemi and 4-speed hardtop Road Runners produced in 1969, finished in its correct B7 Jamaica Blue with full-length white stripes, black hood graphics, and proper Hemi callouts. The A34 Super Track Pack brought the full complement of heavy-duty hardware from the factory — Dana 60 rear axle with 4.10 gears, Sure-Grip differential, power front disc brakes, and a high-performance radiator. The 426 Hemi wears its dual Carter four-barrel carburetors, wrinkle black valve covers, and correct factory-style air cleaner, presenting exactly as a period-correct Hemi should. The A833 4-speed manual transmission and Hurst shifter complete a drivetrain combination that defined what serious performance meant in 1969.
The restoration is thorough throughout, with the body correctly refinished and period details intact — Pentastar fender badge, Hemi and Road Runner decklid emblems, and body-matched 15-inch steel wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich Silvertown redlines. The torsion bar front and leaf spring rear suspension remain correct to the original specification, supported by power steering and the Super Track Pack brake setup. The undercarriage presents cleanly with correct hardware and dual Hemi-style exhaust mufflers maintaining the proper look and sound.
Inside, the H2X black vinyl interior has been fully restored with correct carpets, seat covers, and headliner. The factory-style dash retains period-correct gauges, and the Road Runner horn button on the 3-spoke steering wheel still delivers the signature beep-beep. A RetroSound head unit adds Bluetooth connectivity while preserving the vintage appearance. For collectors focused on rare, correctly optioned B-body Mopars, a documented 1-of-234 Hemi and 4-speed Road Runner in this color combination represents exactly the kind of opportunity that defines serious collecting.
