Description
The 1963 Pontiac LeMans occupies a fascinating place in American automotive history. As the sportier trim level of the Tempest line, the LeMans was Pontiac’s entry into the compact performance market — and the very platform that would give birth to the legendary GTO just one year later. With its clean Y-body styling, open-air convertible option, and Pontiac’s trademark Wide Track stance, the LeMans offered genuine style and driving enjoyment in a more accessible package than the full-size Pontiacs of the era.
This example has undergone a ground-up restoration and presents in a striking House of Kolor Tangerine Kandy two-stage finish, detailed with Hot Rod Black and Charcoal outlining stripes. The fully re-chromed split grille, open hood scoop, and black canvas convertible top combine to create a look that is equal parts traditional hot rod and pro-touring show car. At the rear, subtle fins and bright taillight trim complete a profile that rewards attention from every angle.
Under the hood sits a fully rebuilt Pontiac 400 cubic inch V8, fed by dual throttle bodies on an Offenhauser intake and backed by a Turbo-Hydramatic 350 3-speed automatic transmission. The chassis has been freshly rebuilt with upgraded suspension featuring tubular control arms and sway bars front and rear, rack-and-pinion steering, and four-wheel power disc brakes with drilled and slotted rotors. Seventeen-inch Hurst wheels wrapped in BF Goodrich g-Force Sport tires complete the stance with period-correct attitude.
Inside, the black vinyl interior retains a clean, factory-correct character with bench seating, an engine-turned instrument panel, and a long Lokar shifter. The LeMans was always about accessible fun with Pontiac personality, and this restored convertible delivers exactly that — a wide-open cruiser with real performance credentials and show-stopping presence.
