Car Overview

Description
Few automobiles carry the cultural weight of the Pontiac GTO. Introduced in 1964 as a factory-optioned performance package on the Tempest platform, the GTO is widely credited with launching the American muscle car era. By 1969, the model had evolved into a fully refined performance machine with swooping Endura bumper styling, hidden headlights, and a hood-mounted tachometer — one of the most visually distinctive and desirable configurations in the entire GTO lineage. The 1969 model year remains among the most sought-after by collectors for its combination of styling, engineering maturity, and historical significance.
This example is a fully documented, numbers-matching GTO that underwent a 10-year rotisserie restoration, stripping the body and chassis to bare metal. It carries its original 400 cubic inch Pontiac V8 topped with a correct Rochester Quadrajet carburetor, backed by the original GM Turbo-Hydramatic 400 3-speed automatic transmission and correct 10-bolt rear axle. The car presents in its factory-correct Fisher Body Burgundy finish with a black top, and rides on correct 14-inch Pontiac Rally II wheels with brushed trim rings — an exclusive feature to 1968 and 1969 models only.
What sets this GTO apart is its remarkable and fully documented ownership story. Owned by one family for 50 years, stored in dry conditions from 1977 onward, and restored over the following decade, the car retains a largely original Red vinyl interior with rare NOS floor mats, correct Rallye Gauges, a Custom Sports Steering Wheel, and a correct Delco AM/FM radio with rear seat speaker. Correct hidden headlights, hood tachometer, and exhaust extensions round out an authentically preserved presentation.
The documentation accompanying this GTO is exceptional by any standard — original Build Sheets, Pre-Delivery Service and Adjustment Check Sheet, original Warranty Booklet, complete ownership history, Pontiac Historic Services documentation, restoration photos, and service records. For the serious GTO collector, this level of provenance combined with a numbers-matching rotisserie restoration represents exactly the kind of opportunity that defines the top tier of the classic muscle car market.
